Vitamin C

Who doesn’t remember their mom handing out a chewable vitamin C whenever a cold was beginning to take hold?  But did you know that not all Vitamin C supplements are equal?

The majority of vitamin C sold on the mass market today is made from synthetic ascorbic acid. Ascorbic acid is made by mixing corn starch and hydrochloric acid together in a laboratory. Numerous studies have proven the ill effects that synthetic vitamin C may have on the body.  However, in its whole food form, vitamin C is very beneficial as an antioxidant (otherwise known as “free-radical scavengers”), assists in collagen and elastin formation (those protein fibers that give skin its youthful plumpness), boosts the immune system, and is necessary in the synthesis of stress hormones (the hormones responsible for age related weight gain).

We, as humans, cannot manufacture or store Vitamin C.  So we need to create a constant supply either from our diet or supplements.  And studies show that in the last 25 years there has been an increase in Vitamin C deficiency.

So take charge, and if you’re not getting your “C”, take a look at Whole C, Cold/Flu Fighter or Immuno Support.

And for your little ones, try the C-Stix– a fun way to add to their health!

Optimal Liver/Kidney, 90 caps - Optimal Health Systems

MILLIONS of pounds of toxins are dumped into our water and air every year. (2,427,061,906 pounds were pumped into the atmosphere, 1,180,831,181 into the ground in 1989- and those numbers are on the rise!) Poor diet, medications, alcohol, electronic devices and stress all add up to toxic buildup. The liver and kidneys play a crucial role in detoxification. The liver is responsible for over 600 functions in the body, which can't be performed at optimal levels without regular liver cleansing and support. Optimal Liver/Kidney from Optimal Health Systems provides safe, effective ingredients proven to release toxins and support optimal liver and kidney function.

Vital nutrients for the fundamental role of the liver Optimal Liver/Kidney

The liver, located under the diaphragm just above the stomach, is the largest organ of the body. Countless chemical reactions take place in the liver every day, including the syntheses if amino acids, sugar conversion and storage, and storage of some vitamins and minerals. It also products lecithin, cholesterol, enzymes and bile and detoxifies harmful substances such as pesticides, food additives and environmental pollutants. The liver plays the key role of processor and distributor in metabolism, furnishing by way of the blood stream a proper combination of nutrients to all other organs and tissues.

ZINC. Zinc is and essential trace element which participates in many functions of the body. Some liver functions require the presence of zinc and its deficiency is common in chronic liver disease. According to scientific research results, it has been suggested that zinc supplementation may improve detrimental liver conditions with supplementation of zinc chelates.

MILK THISTLE. This herb has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for diseases of the liver and biliary tract. As interest in alternative therapy has emerged in the United States, gastroenterologists have encountered the increasing numbers of patients taking Milk Thistle. The active ingredients in the herb have been reported to work as antioxidants scavenging free radical and inhibiting lipid peroxidation. There are two main areas in which this herb is used. Research has shown that it promotes the regeneration of diseased liver cells and protects them against some poisons. This exciting finding gives Milk Thistle a role in any chronic liver disease and especially those due to alcohol, drug or dietary abuse. It will also aid gallbladder problems.

BARBERRY. Barberry is an excellent remedy for correcting liver function and promoting the flow of bile. It is indicated when there is an inflammation of the gallbladder or in the presence of gallstones. When jaundice occurs due to a congested state of the liver, Barberry is also indicated.

DANDELION ROOT. Here is an example of how different parts of a plant can have a markedly different medicinal use. Dandelion leaf is a very powerful diuretic. With Dandelion we have one of the best natural sources of potassium. It thus makes and ideally balanced diuretic that may be safely used wherever such an action is needed, including water retention. The root is one of our most widely applicable, gentle tonics for the liver function. As a cholagogue it may be used in inflammation and congestion of the liver and gallbladder. It is specific in cases of congestive jaundice. As part of a wider treatment for muscular rheumatism it can be most effective. This herb is a most valuable general tonic and perhaps the best widely applicable diuretic and liver tonic.
