There is no better source of natural vitamin C, with its full spectrum of bioflavonoids and supporting nutrients than amla berry. Also known as the Indian Gooseberry, the amla berry has been revered in Ayurvedic medicine since the 7th century for its anti-aging and immune-enhancing benefits and as a general tonic for optimal health. Mother Nature's very best source of vitamin C, amla berries are well documented as much easier to assimilate than synthetic vitamin C, which is known as ascorbic acid. Vitamins from an all-natural whole-food source like amla are also safer and more effective than laboratory-created synthetic or crystalline vitamins, which may be derived from genetically engineered ingredients.
Whole-food Amla C Plus is more potent and thoroughly assimilated than synthetic supplements. As a wonderful antioxidant, alma aids the body's natural defenses against bacteria and viruses, and even supports digestion. A unique blend of 80% amla berry and 20% Spirulina, Pure Planet Amla-C Plus has no GMOs, fillers, sweeteners or additives. No other vitamin C can make the same claim. Find out why our customers rave about Amla-C Plus and its healing powers.
Nutritional Profile:
Each amla fruit contains up to 700 mg of Vitamin C. The natural ascorbate is synergistically enhanced by the bioflavanoids and polyphenols contained in each fruit. In fact, researchers have shown that 8.7 mg of natural Vitamin C complex from amla is equivalent to 100 mg of the most commonly used synthetic Vitamin C. (Arore, R.B. Development of Unani Compounds from Herbal Sources, p234, 1985).
Amla Berry:
This fruit is highly prized both for its high vitamin C content (8 times that of a lemon, and 30 times the Vitamin C in an orange) and for the precious oil which is extracted from its seeds and pulp and used as a treatment for hair and scalp problems. It is the world's richest source of vitamin C. Amla fruit is also known as Indian Gooseberry. This well studied plant, a natural source of Vitamin C is primarily effective on liver and spleen and also in relieving inflammation throughout the body. Amla is a household name in India. It is known to impart good health. It is highly reputed for its rejuvenative properties. Amla is consumed as a coolant in summers in the form of "murabbas" or refreshing drinks.
Amla is highly nutritious and is an important dietary source of Vitamin C, minerals and amino acids. The edible fruit tissue contains protein concentration 3-fold and ascorbic acid concentration 160-fold compared to that of the apple. The fruit also contains considerably higher concentration of most minerals and amino acids that apples. Glutamic acid, proline, aspartic acid, alanine, and lysine are 29.6, 14.6, 8.1, 5.4 and 5.3% respectively of the total amino acids. The pulpy portion of fruit, dried at 100- and freed from the nuts contains: gallic acid 1.32%, tannin, sugar 36.10%; gum 13.75%; albumin 13.08%, crude cellulose 17.08%; mineral matter 4.12% and moisture 3.83%. Amla fruit ash contains chromium, 2.5; zinc, 4; and copper, 3 ppm. Presence of chromium is of therapeutic value in diabetes. Fruit also contains phyllemblin and curcuminoides. The fruit contained 482.14 units of superoxide dismutase/g fresh weight, and exhibited antisenescent activity. The seed oil contains 64.8% linolinic acid and closely resembles linseed oil.
Cytoprotective Activity:
Clinical studies conducted on patients with allergic and respiratory infections showed that Amla caused a decrease in the IgE levels. This was shown more pronounced in the allergic groups. Hence, it would appear that it helps in controlled allergic respiratory problems. Effects of Amla on smokers showed that it helped in improving the quality of life and general well being. Amla Fruit has proven anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-mutagenic, yeast inhibiting, nematcidal, anabolic, anti-hepatoxic, anti-hyperhidrosis, anti-inflammatory, anti-histaminic, anti-spasmodic, hypolipidemic, and hypotensive relieving properties, it also acts as an antacid and anti-tumorganic agent. In addition, it increases protein synthesis and is thus useful in cases of hypoglycemia.
